It's slim,so it packs neatly into my computer case. It does everything it advertises to do. Read other positive reviews. They're all correct.

Review: Works fine on My MacBook
by: Nathaniel C. Comfort on date: June 26, 2007
Chiming in on the debate over how this works with Mac laptops...it spins up happily for my Titanium MacBook, running on the battery. Takes a few seconds to mount on the desktop, even on my main machine (a G5 tower). But it's got snappy response and is eminently portable. Had it a week and so far I'm happy with it.

Review: Great Backup Drive
by: Nancy NM on date: June 10, 2007
I'm not much of a techie but this drive was VERY easy to install and VERY easy to burn to. Extremely pleased with it....Holds all my photos and music backups. Great Device.

Review: Fast, Easy
by: Ethan A. Winning on date: June 2, 2007
Teke it out of the box - that's the toughest part - plug it into your computer or laptop and drag all that you want to copy to it. Then plug it into your other computer, and reverse the process. Or put it in your briefcase or suitcase and take it to wherever you happen to be going, and show whoever wants to or is willing to watch your "slides" what's on the drive. It's true plug and play. And it really is fast.

I have no real issues with the product, it just wasn't compatible with my laptop...no problem, not everything is. My complaint is with the distributor ANTONLINE. DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY!!! I have filed my first ever complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

The company has a ridiculous, unheard of, policy that once a package is opened it cannot be returned. How is a consumer supposed to try out the product if you cannot open the package????!!! The customer service department will take ONLY email requesats...you cannot speak to a human. I finally was able to get a person in the sales department. She was of no help, rude, and hung up the phone on me. Unfortunately when I finally got through again she answered the phone. She pushed me through to her voicemail...another dead end. So I am stuck with a product that I cannot use & out $80.

I wrote a letter to the company. That was weeks ago. Never heard a thing - not surprising. I'm sure this product is just fine if it's compatible with your systems, but PLEASE go through the Western Dig. company directly, DON'T BUY FROM ANTONLINE!!!!!!!!

Review: Generic Volume??
by: Sarah on date: May 20, 2007
After putting pictures onto it for the first time usage, I try to eject the device by clicking on the 'Saftly Remove Hardware' icon in the system tray and click on stop and it says "Device 'generic volume' cannot be stopped right now. Try stopping the device again later". This message keeps coming up all the time I use it. And I'm scared to remove the driver unless the computer is off. Is there any way of stopping the generic volume so i can remove the device? I am using windows XP.

The rest is fine....quick, quiet, and good size..but I am not sure if it's reliable.

Review: Works the way it should
by: N. Moreno on date: May 13, 2007
The product works fine just don't use the WDSync program that comes with it (crashes on my Windows XP) just move the files you want into the Hard drive and you are set.

Review: Great Addition for Notebooks
by: Douglas H. Hale on date: May 13, 2007
I purchased this item to expand my capabilities on my IBM Notebook and to use as a backup system. It works great! Shortly after receiving my Passport, I backedup my entire system and then reformatted my computer. When I was ready to restore my system to the computer, the Passport worked flawessly and I did not lose any information. Therefore, I highly recommend the WD Password for system backups as well as saving items to the Passport to free up storage on your computer whether a Notebook or Desktip.

Review: Best value for money (for the time being!)
by: Seong J. Chen on date: May 13, 2007
The price of a hard disk goes down so fast that its value will not hold long ... but this is really a good buy because:
1. the writing and accessing speed is fast
2. the hard disk size is stylish and small (relatively)
3. the hard disk comes with a software that can synchronize Office documents, Outlook emails etc

Review: The drive didn't work! Had to send it back on "my dime".
by: Mr San Diego on date: May 13, 2007
I received the drive packed in air bag type of wrap. It was NOT in an ESD-safe bag, and I suspect maybe this is why it didn't work. When I got instructions of how to send it back to Western Digital for replacement, they insisted it be put in an ESD-safe bag. J&R Music world is who packed and shipped it. I put the drive in an ESD-safe bag when returning it just to comply with Western Digitals instructions. I had to pay for shipping back to Western Digital, and now I'm waiting for them to send a replacement.

Review: Vista compatible!
by: gevank on date: April 4, 2007
My new machine at home has Microsoft's Vista Home Premium operating system and I have had terrible luck with compatibility issues involving software and hardware. This worked perfectly right out of the box - it installed the software automatically and quickly downloaded data I had loaded on it from my pc at work (which runs Windows XP Professional). A great little unit ...

I just bought this, on sale @ Staples. I haven't used it yet, but I wanted to thank you all for your comments.
When buying for computers, it's sometimes scary to think you've bought the wrong thing, and often they aren't returnable. Your 2 comments have put my mind at ease, and I'll try it later.
I'm now on an iMAc and I love it. I did too much photo editing and my HP laptop crashed and burned.
Backing up seems wise... thanks.

Review: Love it
by: MFP on date: December 14, 2006
I have now had this hard drive for over two months. I'm delighted with it. I did a good deal of research before settling on the WD 60GB passport drive (more GB just seemed like overkill, and other brands are not reviewed as positively). Took it out of the package, hooked it up to the USB cord that is included, plugged it into the 2.0 USB socket, and it simply worked like a charm. I backed up 30 GB worth of personal files from my computer in less than 15 minutes. Nothing to install, no additional USB connection needed, and no juice required. The drive is completely silent. Love it. And it's really small, light, and cute. Even a little sexy ... all smooth and shiny. Hope it lasts.

Review: Works so far on my Powerbook
by: Bakari Chavanu on date: November 25, 2006
I have the silver verison of this same hard drive, but for some reason it won't run on my Powerbook G4 (it does run on my Mac desktop.) But this, the black version, does. It's very light weight, well designed, and will be useful for the work I do. A 120gb or more model would probably be best for long term storage. This 60gb is best used for transporting data from one computer to another. So far I'm impressed by this drive and its affordability.

Review: simple plug 'n play
by: Ulrich on date: May 13, 2007
Very easy to use, just plug it in, works without problems even between PC and Mac environments.
One minor problem: Connection between USB cable and harddrive is very loose, resulting in occasional
loss of connection. This might be limited to this specific unit, and is easily remedied by not moving it around while connected.
All in all it works flawlessly, and is furthermore very light, small, and portable.

Review: No instructions included is a bad idea
by: Gabrielle Miller on date: May 7, 2007
I knew I needed to have a large venue to backup files, particulartly photos, and was encouraged by the description of this device being so easy: "Just plug it in and go." However, the information displayed on the screen is difficult to understand, unless you are familiar with the lingo. It's not clear what I should do for what. I'm frustrated, because I'm sure it would have been very simple to explain how to navigate--but no one has done that. One and a half thumbs down!

i have had this for about....3 months, and haven't had any prob's so far. all the other reviews about failure...i would recommend unplugging this thing from your computer when you are done with it to avoid having a power surge or whatever. only take this thing out when you are actually using it. i think that's the reason the manufacturer doesn't have an on/off switch, because they know this is a MOBILE EXTERNAL peripheral, not to be constantly plugged in.

by: C. Cox on date: March 12, 2007
At first I was worried about some of the negative reviews I've read about this product. Instead of listening to those reviews, I ignored them and I'm so glad I did. Not only that this product works great, it gave me a chance to have a extra external storage that I can carry around with me. The thumbs drives are awesome, but is limited to the capacity of the storage amount I would be needing in the type of work I do. With the Western Digital 60GB passport, I don't have to worry of needing an extra drive to save all my back-ups. It looks great too. I love it.

Review: 60 GB Western Digital Hard Drive
by: Harry W. Galer on date: March 10, 2007
I was looking for something that was fast, portable, and easy. I have backed up my documents on three computers, including photos and music and still have tons of space in reserve. It's small, looks great, fast and, so far, very dependable.

Review: So far, so good
by: Doug Roberts on date: February 26, 2007
Works great so far, and I do not need an external power source for my XP platform. I have been putting a bunch of stuff on it, quick transfer time. Only problem I ran into so far is that I could not get my extra Win 2K computer to recognize it, but that is a minor problem.

Review: Works very well
by: J. Park on date: February 13, 2007
I bought this product because I wanted to get a portable USB external hard drive that can store about 50 GB without requiring a separate AC power adopter. I've been using it daily for about a month now without any problem. It connects to both Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux very well on my notebook (IBM T43) and desktop computers. Although this is one of the better designed portable external hard drives in the market, the top and side surfaces can be easily scratched like some iPods (but those scratches are hardly visible unless you shine light on the surface). Nonetheless, I'm extremely satisfied with the performance of the product overall.

Review: Got it working with Windows 98.

Smaller than thought. Working on a usb 2.0
port on windows 98. Can plug and unplug and
carry 60 GB in my pocket!

This drive, while a little more costly per gbyte, worked perfectly out of the box with both a MAC laptop and a HP desktop. No problems and fast.

Review: Wonderful hard drive
by: Miss Steele on date: January 8, 2007
I did a lot of research and am so glad that I purchased this external hard drive. I wanted something to back up large files that could work between a Mac and PC, but didn't want to spend an arm and a leg because. This has been amazing. I just plug it into my music producers rig, back up the sessions and am able to open them up on my Mac to manipulate. No need to install any sort of hardware, just plug in and go.

Review: A delightfully excellent product.
by: Trebor on date: January 7, 2007
When I received and opened my package, I was delighted with this product. It is gorgeous. It's like a sold sculpted piece of shining acrylic with a single tiny portal for the USB connection. It comes with a short USB cable. When you connect it, it powers up and is ready to store your data (there's no on/off switch). I purchased this drive to make a safety copy of another one of my external drives. It took care of this task without a hitch. I'm completely satisfied so far.

Review: Very Functional Very Sexy
by: Santa Claus on date: December 16, 2006
I wanted a very cheap external hard drive with more than 50GB. I got this at Best Buy for fifty bucks. I am so glad I did. Not only does it get the job done, but it's nicely designed just like an iPod, DS lite, or Macbook computer. Very portable also. Only one and a half times the size of a sixty gig ipod. Don't buy it for more than seventy dollars. Lots of good deals on this, sometimes as low as forty dollars.

I didn't know what to expect when I bought this but it has been terrific. It is very small, very easy to use and so far it has been very reliable. I also bought a Case Logic case for about $15.00 since I travel with it.
